Editorial Illustration | Wild Marsh Rabbit Family Mother & Baby Bunnies

A spring themed wildlife illustration created for 31-81 magazine last year. Marsh rabbits are lovely, cute little critters with shorter ears than the average wild rabbit. This was a treat to work on and I hope I can work on more wildlife themed illustrations soon.

Editorial Illustration // Bald Eagle Couple in Watercolour

Earlier this year I was asked to illustrate a pair of Bald Eagles for Jekyll Island magazine, 31-81's upcoming fall/winter 2019 issue. It was lovely to learn that bald eagles mate for life, and that they have a breeding pair on the island itself. After looking at a number of photo references, I ended up with two possible sketches for the illustration. 

 The second sketch was chosen to take to completion - and here it is, this one was a treat to work on.

Jekyll Island Bottle-nose Dolphins // Editorial Illustration

Another wildlife illustration for a particular Georgia-based magazine, 31-81 - this time for an article discussing the bottle-nose dolphins within the region.

At the time of this commission I later continued with my sketches of dolphins. I had some fun playing with loose, expressive lines and then later on, some vibrant colours...

Stylist Magazine // The Summer of Craft Beers (1 of 2)

Last week's issue of Stylist Magazine featured the article "The Summer of Craft Beers" - and if you saw it then you might have noticed that the illustrations were all done by yours truly! I was asked to provide my own take on some of the season's trendiest independently-brewed beers, as well as a full opening page design with a very feminine and ornate beer bottle.

The timeframe was very tight on this one - I had just 3 days to complete 10 illustrations from start to finish which was very challenging. On the plus side, having to work as fast as possible certainly required that I be more confident with my freehand work, and accept it for what it is, mistakes and all (absolutely no chance of starting over with this project!)

The opening title page was very fun to design and paint. The brief required it to be feminine and decorative - so of course I let loose on a very pretty, girly beer label!

Cancer Treatment Centres of America // Cancer Fighters Thrive Magazine: A Place to Call Home

My work is featured in this month's "Cancer Fighters Thrive" magazine! A quarterly magazine distributed by Cancer Treatment Centres of America. The magazine is designed to inform and empower cancer patients, their friends and families.

I was asked to illustrate the article "A Place to Call Home" which discusses ways in which patients make their stay at the centres more homely. After reading the article I submitted lots of idea sketches. The favourites were then selected and painted for the final illustrations. This was a very lovely and enjoyable commission.

Better Homes and Gardens: "Live Well" // Photo Frames, Car Keys and Swimming Pools

The second of the two articles I worked on in the July issue of Better Homes and Gardens US magazine. For the "Live Well" section, I contributed four small spot illustrations to accompany the content.

As with the Better Health illustrations, these also required a consistent colour palette to compliment the page theme. I love those fancy "fine art" photo frames! Here they are as they appear in the magazine:
