Beehive illustrations for Collin's Beekeeper's Bible

The lovely Harpercollins publishers asked me to provide some new and updated beehive illustrations for their "Types of Hive" page in the Collin's Beekeeper's Bible.  

I used the original illustrations from the book as reference for the first four hives, which were to remain the same, and added two new types, which replaced the out-of-date designs. Only two needed updating but to keep the page consistent, all six needed to be redone. It was a pleasure! I loved painting the woodgrain effect.

The Little Book of Chickens is out now!

"The Little Book of Chickens" is out now! 

Over the winter months, I worked with the lovely HarperCollins team alongside chicken expert 

Jessica Ford, to illustrate this pretty little gift-book packed full of chicken-keeping knowledge.

I first painted some samples back in 2021 for this, back when the idea for the book was being pitched to the publisher. The idea was partly inspired by three hens and one rooster painting I made way back in 2012.

Those four, plus the samples, are included in the final book! I'm honoured the rooster made it to the front cover.

I'm delighted with how pretty it turned out, and how much there is to learn about our humble chicken friends.

The Little Book of Bees | Regional Cover Variations | Book Illustration

I find the differences in the regional cover art for this book so interesting to see - so here they are:  

UK Cover - features European bee species and gold foiling on the title font. It has a luxurious, gift-book feel

US Cover - features bee species native to the US, and a spot gloss title font in a bold warm yellow (photo credit: Girl Next Door Honey)

Book Cover Illustration // "Cook Healthy & Quick" by DK Publishing

This week I received a wonderful surprise in the mail from the lovely team at DK publishing. Back in August I was asked to illustrate a pair of fitting ingredients for the cover of their new book "Cook Healthy & Quick". The only request was that the paintings were soft so that they wouldn't overpower the photography. I actually finished four pea pods in varying ways so that they could choose their favourite. This was my first time working for Dorling Kindersley and they were lovely to work with. 

Seeing my work on the finished book cover is fantastic, and I'm incredibly pleased with the results!

My lemon illustration was also used in its entirety on the reverse side of the jacket.

  The book is a new release this month (January 2016) and is packed full of excellent healthy recipes.
