Personal // Lemur King! (Tribute to The Ring Tailed Lemurs of Madagascar)

A little personal piece I've gradually built on over the last few months. Lemurs are amazing little creatures with huge personalities and it is so sad that there are so few left in the wild. (90% of their Madagascan forest home has been lost to produce agricultural land for man's livestock). We must not let the remaining forests be destroyed, or we will lose these loving, funny little characters forever.

Angus Update #3 // Fairytale Scottish Castle & Bonnie Highlands teaser...

Another teaser from my unreleased "Angus" storybook work... I love these Scotland highlands. Being from Cumbria obviously the fells and highlands of "up north" are close to my heart, so illustrating these landscape scenes was a treat, even if they took a LOT of practice to get right...!

Angus Update #2 // Suit of Armor teaser...

Hello wonderful blogger friends!

I know I was very quiet throughout January - and so I would like to thank my followers so much for bearing with me. For the most part its been the good kind of quiet! I have been busy - and I'll be able to start updating you with new work over the next few weeks...I am excited to share what I've been working on with you all.

For now, here's a little Friday update: I am almost finished with my "Angus" story book commission...and here is a little teaser. Ooh a mysterious hallway...

Pet Portraits - gerbil babies, budgies and fancy goldfish

These are some pet portrait commissions I have completed recently.

This little series was a commission for a5-sized paintings of three gerbil portraits and one budgie. I worked from photo references but the client had some requests for little extras which I added in too.

 The rainbow was an unexpected request, and it called for some practice and experimenting with various techniques before I painted the final piece.

This handsome boy's name is Merlin, so he needed a bit of extra magic! 

Another recent pet portait was of this playful chappy named Bartholomew (the best name for a fish I have ever heard)

Sleeping Beauty's Tower Concepts

These were some of my initial idea sketches for some storybook-style "initial letters" I'm working on. The Sleeping Beauty story begins with an "I" and I am illustrating it with a tower. The final design is now looking very different to these, as these ones were really not that recognisable as the letter "I"!
